Stories About Mount Tangkuban Perahu

This folklore from  West Java tells the story of Sangkuriang who loves his own mother, Dayang Sumbi. The mother who knew she was going to marry her child made a requirement to disrupt the marriage.

But unexpectedly, his son agreed to this requirement where he had to damp the river and build a boat before it came in the morning. The work done by Sangkuriang was completed quickly because there was help from jinn.

Dayang Sumbi, who saw this, gathered his mind to make way for the work not to be completed. So he took out a silk cloth to look like in the morning, such a condition led to the chicken overflowing because he thought the morning had come.

But Sangkuriang had not finished his job at the time so he was angry because his proposal was rejected by his own mother. So he invented his anger by kicking the boat that had taken place. The boat eventually refused to become a mountain currently known as Tangkuban perahu.

Of course, this folklore from West Java is very interesting to know considering that Tangkuban Perahu is one of the most popular tourist attractions in West   Java. In addition, the mountain is also in the form of a boat that so many people believe in this story.

Moreover in addition to having an interesting history, this mountain alsotastes good so that many people like it. In addition, there are so many moral messages that can be taken from the story, especially regarding the relationship between mother and daughter.

 Origin Story from Bandung City

Another folklore from  West Java is about the origins of the city of Bandung. The story begins with a rivalry between Jaka and a show that they are students at one of the colleges. Where the nature of the two of them is opposed to each other but complement each other so that they are like brothers and sisters.

However, conflicts began to occur when they liked the same woman, Sekar, who was the daughter of their teacher. Jaka, who has a beautiful face, finally asks Sekar but his father without  the p uterus’ consent accepts the proposal.

But in fact Sekar liked Wira in order to subtly reject the proposal made a contest where he would marry a person who could turn off the lava of the Tangkuban boat. Finally, Jaka and Wira looked for a way to win the competition but Jaka actually couldn’t do that.

But he agreed with it but after wandering jaka instead of looking for a way to turn off lava, he played around. However, it is different from what Wira did where he made several ways to be able to turn off lava. Until he finally saw the beaver that made the dam out of wood.

This ultimately forced him to get a way to turn off lava. Until wira finally blocked the Citarum river by dropping down the hill so that it could stop the river water until it could finally turn off the lava on the Mount Tangkuban boat.

So that he finally made the dock in a lake. In the end, Wira and Sekar finally got married and had children. However, after many years, the dam that was created collapsed due to the higher discharge of water so that the water in the lake would dry out.

As a result, landmasses appeared to have loose soil that would force many people to move to the new place. By the end the new place became the town of Bandung whose name was taken from the dam or weir. This is West Java folklore that most people still don’t know about.

 Folklor Dwar Lutung Kasarung

Folklore from West Java that is no less interesting is about Lutung Kasarung telling the story of a princess named Purbasari meets a untung who is a prince who is cursed to be an ape. Putri Purbasari herself was dumped by her brother because she was used to appear to be affected by a skin disease.

Cerita west Javanese people lutung kasarung.   It was because of his illness that he was thrown into the forest in order to meet the langur. The langur, who liked the ancients very much, finally asked the almighty so that it appeared a lake whose water could cure p uterine  skin  disease.

Then after her skin disease  was cured, the p uterus was finally taken back to the palace but the princess’s older brother named Purbararang became jealous and feared his power would  be taken back by Purbasari. Finally, his older brother asked the king to do a race, namely a quick cooking competition and hair length.

In both races, the younger brother became the winner so his older brother finally asked the king to do a new race to determine who the winner was. The race is about who is the better-looking partner.

By the end Purbasari brought a langur and introduced him as his partner but his brother scolded him because his partner was an ape. As a result of the heartache, he finally asked the almighty one to restore his form to his original state and then be given away.

At the end of this West  Javanese folklore  , Purbasari became the winner in order to be a royal dreamer  and his brother Purbararang was not subjected to punishment despite being proven guilty and lost.  

 Folklore About The Nini Reef

Another West  Javanese folklore   is no less interesting is about the Nini reef where the story begins with an old couple whose name can be blessed with children. To meet the daily needs, the man goes to sea and in the morning goes home with the catch that will be consumed by himself or sold.

But one day the man was allowed to leave to go overboard but by the morning the man had not returned home. The woman also panicked so she went to find her husband along with other villagers. But one day the woman who finally gave up asked the almighty one to reunite with the almighty.

But suddenly a rock appeared, in which someone said the stone was the embodiment of the man. The surprised woman finally asked the almighty to turn into a rock like her husband as well.

Of course, the two stones are positioned side by side, which so far still appear on the nini coral beach. Therefore, there are so many lessons to learn from the above story about a woman’s loyalty to her husband. So it is very important for the younger generation to know  this  West Javanese folklore . So there are many lessons that can be learned and can be applied in everyday life.
